When Did We Stop Listening to Our Bodies?
What returning to you body really means.

Most women were never taught how to listen to their bodies.
We were taught how to manage them.
We learned to count calories, watch the scale, follow meal plans, push through workouts, ignore hunger, and measure progress by what we could see in the mirror. Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped asking a much simpler question:
How do I actually feel?
Your body communicates with you all day long. Hunger is communication. Energy is communication. Soreness is communication. Digestion, sleep, strength, mood, recovery, and even the way a particular movement feels are all information.
But listening to your body can become difficult when you've spent years believing that discipline means overriding it.
Listening Isn't the Same as Making Excuses
This is where I think fitness culture has confused a lot of women.
Listening to your body does not mean avoiding every uncomfortable workout.
There are days when you won't feel like exercising and getting yourself moving is exactly what you need. There are sets that burn because your muscles are working. There are moments when increasing the weight, doing another repetition, or challenging yourself is part of becoming stronger.
But there is a difference between challenge and punishment.
There is a difference between:
“This is hard, but my body can do this.” and “My body is telling me something is wrong, but I'm going to force it anyway because stopping means I'm weak.”
Learning that difference takes time. Think About How Easily We Override Ourselves
You wake up exhausted after several nights of poor sleep, but your workout plan says it's leg day, so you force yourself through the same intensity you normally would.
You're hungry two hours after eating, but you've already eaten the calories your plan says you're “allowed,” so you try to ignore it.
You're sore in a way that doesn't feel like normal muscle soreness, but you convince yourself that missing a workout means you're losing progress.
Or maybe the opposite happens.
Your body feels strong. Your energy is good. You're recovering well. The weight you've been using suddenly feels easier. That's communication too.
Your body isn't only speaking when something is wrong. Sometimes it's telling you, I'm ready.
Your Body Isn't the Same Body Every Day. This is especially important for women.
Sleep, stress, hydration, nutrition, recovery, hormones, illness, emotional stress, and countless other things can affect how we perform from one day to another.
That doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It means you're human.
A weight that felt fantastic last week may feel unusually heavy today. Another day, you may walk into the gym and surprise yourself with what you're capable of.
The goal isn't to expect exactly the same performance every day. The goal is to learn your own patterns.
And you can't learn them if you're constantly drowning them out with somebody else's rules.
Awareness Comes Before Change
Before changing your calories, buying another supplement, starting another program, or deciding that you need to work harder, start paying attention.
Notice what gives you energy.
Notice what drains it.
Notice how different foods leave you feeling.
Notice how you sleep after certain kinds of days.
Notice the difference between muscle fatigue and pain.
Notice when movement makes you feel stronger—and when you're using movement to punish yourself.
You don't have to immediately fix everything you notice. Just notice it.
Because awareness gives you information, and information gives you choices.
That's where a healthier relationship with fitness can begin.
